From The Hidden World of Poetry: Unravelling Celtic mythology in Contemporary Irish Poetry by Adam Wyeth

Born in Limerick, in 1935, Desmond O’Grady is the most senior poet in this book. Known since the publication of, The Dark Edge of Europe (1967) as the ‘Poet O’Grady’, he has been a major force for decades in Irish poetry. He has published twenty collections of his own poems, including, Collected Poems, The Road Taken, 1956 – 1996.

Swiss poet Erika Burkart (1922–2010) has been compared to the likes of Ingeborg Bachmann, Friedericke Mayröcker, and Rainer Maria Rilke. During the latter half of her lifetime, the Swiss literary establishment perceived her not only as the grande dame of Swiss-German poetry, but also as an elusive, metaphysical, at times eccentric enigma of contemporary German-language literature.

The Enchanting Verses Literary Review collaborated with Stremež, with effect from March 2011. (1-3) poets published in The Enchanting Verses and poems of the selected poet/poets  are sent to the editorial board of Stremež for translation into Macedonian and subsequent feature in the yearly pages of Stremež. The decision is solely made by the editorial board of The Enchanting Verses in consultation with the Consulting Macedonian Editor and selections are send by 15th May of each year.

Midnight
That which is not mine calls for me
And I belong to it with every call
A hesitant woman along the street
Breaks the darkness into waves
I scream behind the windows
Of my room built upon my screams
In this City permeated with silence
Where mute faces and rambling smiles
Cast spells over the walls
I hesitate along the street
Far away is my room
I flap with white pages in the darkness
And every crumb of darkness sticks upon me.

A Dutch special edition was realised with the support of Dutch Foundation for Literature. The edition included Poems by significant Dutch poets from the past century alongside upcoming names.

Further Dutch poets from this anthology is being invited to different festival in India, turn by turn to promote Dutch poetry in India and has been significant to Indo-Dutch cultural cooperation.

For a small-ish language community, Dutch writers achieve a remarkable international resonance, and poets seem to have been served exceptionally well by their translators, if recent publications in English are anything to go by. If one was looking for some recurring character across the wide variety of poetic invention among them it might be a kind of lucid wryness and clarity of gaze, an assertion that however historical or mythical association might illuminate our contemporary concerns, the heart of the matter lies under our noses, in the streets and lanes, in our apartments and institutions. Interestingly, the latest translations of entirely new collections – by the marvellous Toon Tellegen and Nachoem M. Wijnberg – fit this paradigm less readily, flying further towards the visionary perhaps, yet even here the world of experience remains entirely this one, the time still absolutely now.

​What is contemporary Australian poetry? In this issue of Enchanting Verses, our intention has been to showcase some of the diverse stylistic and thematic approaches being produced in Australia in the twenty-first century. The largest country in Oceania, Australia has a population of over 24 million, boasting an equally robust and rich seam of page and performance poetics running through the country. In this issue, we offer a sample of 25 poets from a range of backgrounds and stages in their literary careers. For some of our poets, this is their first of hopefully many publications. Some write in fragments, others choose free verse, blank verse, prose poetry, and performance poems. We have also aimed to showcase a variety of poets from across Australia, though many originate from Western Australia.

Enchanting Poet

İlhan Sami Çomak was born in 1973 in Karliova town of Bingol province. After completing his primary, secondary and high school education in Bingol, he enrolled in The Faculty of Letters Department of Geography at Istanbul University in 1992. He was detained in 1994 and imprisoned. Mr. Çomak is on remand for the last 26 years in prison. He is a poet of 8 published poetry books, which he wrote during his detained 26 years in prison. ​​​

Metin Celâl was born in 1961 in Ankara. He studied Petroil Engineering in ODTÜ and Journalism in Istanbul University. He worked as a director, redactor and general manager in various publishing houses and literary reviews. He also worked on the board of some literary reviews. He prepared anthologies and dictionaries. Since 1979 his essays and poems have been published in literary reviews. His poems were translated into 10 different languages and published as books in French and German. He still serves as a director  of one publishing house.

 Süreyya Aylin Antmen wrote her first poem when she was 13 years old. She attended Anadolu University (AOF) at the Department of Philosophy and Sociology. Antmen’s first published poem appeared in Patika poetry review in 2004. Her poems and articles were published in the reviews Şiir Ülkesi, Patika, Öteki-siz, Damar, NO Edebiyat, Muaf, Varlık, Cumhuriyet Kitap, Özgür Edebiyat, Cin Ayşe and Yeni E. “Sonsuzluğa Kiracı” her works were found “remarkable” in 2008 Yaşar Nabi Nayır Youth Awards. Her poems have been translated in English, Zaza, Urdu, Kurdish and French languages.
